självpollinerande
Självpollinerande refers to a plant's ability to pollinate itself, meaning its pollen can fertilize its own ovules. This process can occur in several ways. Autogamy is a form of self-pollination where pollen is transferred from the anther to the stigma of the same flower. This is often facilitated by the flower's structure, such as having its reproductive parts positioned close together. Another form is geitonogamy, where pollen from one flower on a plant is transferred to the stigma of another flower on the same plant. While genetically similar to autogamy, it involves multiple flowers. Plants that are self-pollinating often have adaptations that promote this type of fertilization, such as producing large amounts of pollen, having stigmas that are receptive at the same time the anthers shed pollen, or being bisexual, possessing both male and female reproductive organs. Many common fruits, vegetables, and grains are self-pollinating, which can be advantageous for growers as it ensures fruit set even in the absence of pollinators or cross-pollination partners. This trait is often selectively bred for in agriculture.
