Sizzurp, also known as purple drank, lean, or barre, is a recreational drug mixture. Its primary ingredients are prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine, combined with a soft drink, typically a fruit-flavored soda. Often, hard candy, such as Jolly Ranchers, is added to enhance the flavor and color.

The mixture is usually consumed orally. Codeine is an opioid analgesic and cough suppressant, while promethazine is an antihistamine with sedative properties. The combination can produce feelings of euphoria, relaxation, and dissociation. However, it also carries significant health risks.

Overconsumption or frequent use of sizzurp can lead to serious health problems. These include respiratory depression, which can be life-threatening, as well as addiction, impaired motor skills, dental problems, and weight gain. The presence of codeine, an opioid, makes it particularly addictive, and withdrawal symptoms can be severe. The sedative effects of promethazine can also lead to drowsiness and impaired judgment. Due to these risks, the use of sizzurp is dangerous and strongly discouraged.
