Sinusszindróma, also known as sinus syndrome or the sick sinus syndrome, is a group of heart rhythm disorders caused by a malfunction of the sinus node, the heart's natural pacemaker. The sinus node is located in the right atrium of the heart and is responsible for initiating the electrical impulses that regulate the heart rate. When the sinus node doesn't function properly, it can lead to an abnormally slow heart rate (bradycardia), irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia), or pauses in the heart's rhythm.

The symptoms of sinusszindróma can vary widely and may include fatigue, dizziness, fainting spells (syncope), shortness of breath, chest pain, and palpitations. The severity of symptoms often depends on the degree of the sinus node dysfunction and the individual's overall health. In some cases, symptoms may be mild and intermittent, while in others, they can be severe and debilitating.

Diagnosing sinusszindróma typically involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and an electrocardiogram (ECG) to assess the heart's electrical activity. Holter monitoring, which records the heart rhythm over a 24-hour period, may also be used to detect intermittent abnormalities. Other tests, such as an electrophysiology study, might be performed in some situations.

Treatment for sinusszindróma depends on the severity of the symptoms and the underlying cause. For individuals with mild or no symptoms, no treatment may be necessary. However, for those experiencing significant symptoms, a pacemaker implantation is often the most effective treatment. A pacemaker is a small device that helps regulate the heart rate by sending electrical impulses to the heart. Medications may also be used to manage certain related arrhythmias or symptoms.
