Sigmaadaptin is a protein complex found in eukaryotic cells that plays a crucial role in the formation of clathrin-coated vesicles. These vesicles are essential for intracellular trafficking and are involved in processes such as endocytosis, the uptake of molecules into the cell, and the transport of proteins within the cell. The sigmaadaptin complex is composed of two subunits, sigma1 and sigma2, which together bind to specific cargo molecules and link them to the clathrin coat. This interaction is critical for ensuring that the correct molecules are packaged into the vesicles for transport.

The sigmaadaptin complex is recruited to the plasma membrane or intracellular membranes where vesicle formation is occurring.
