seðlana
Seðlarnir are the banknotes of Iceland's currency, the Icelandic króna (ISK). They are issued by the Central Bank of Iceland and serve as legal tender for all debts within Iceland. The notes come in several denominations, each with distinct color and size. Their designs typically depict Icelandic landscapes, wildlife, and cultural themes, and they incorporate security features such as watermarks, security threads, holograms, microprinting, color-shifting ink, and ultraviolet elements. Although Iceland has a strong cash infrastructure, electronic payments and card use are prevalent and growing. Banknotes are regularly updated or redesigned to improve durability and security. They remain exchangeable at face value at banks and the Central Bank.
