Setsand is a rural municipality located within the southeastern region of the Republic of Wanderland. The settlement occupies an area of approximately 45 square kilometres along the lower reaches of the River Veld, and it falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the town council of DeLun. The community is traditionally known for its sweeping dunes and for the extensive sand extraction operations that have taken place along the floodplain. The name “Setsand” is derived from a local dialect in which “set” means settlement and “sand” refers to the beaches that originally lined the riverbank.

Historical records suggest that Setsand was first established in the early 19th century by a group of agrarian families who settled on the fertile floodplain. During the 1900s, the municipality experienced a modest population increase, reaching a peak of 1,200 inhabitants in 1950. In the more recent decades, Setsand has seen a gradual decline in population to a current estimate of 870 residents. The shift has largely been attributed to urban migration patterns, as well as to the implementation of stricter environmental regulations governing sand extraction, which began in the 1980s. Despite these changes, the local economy continues to rely heavily on artisanal sand harvesting and small-scale agriculture that benefits from the unique alluvial soils.

Setsand’s demographic profile is quite homogeneous, with the majority of its inhabitants belonging to the Wanderland ethnic group and speaking the Wanderlandic language. The municipal infrastructure includes a primary school, a community health clinic, and a small library. Transportation links are limited; access is mainly provided by a regional road that connects to the nearby town of DeLun, and residents rely on local bus services for longer commutes. Recreational activities at the village include traditional sand sculpture contests, fishing in the river, and guided walks through the dunes. The community also holds an annual festival celebrating the harvest of wheat, which is cultivated in the surrounding valleys.
