servido

Servido is the past participle of the verb servir in Spanish and Portuguese. In both languages it functions in participial constructions to indicate that something has been served or attended to. It is not commonly used as a standalone noun; its primary grammatical role is as a participle.

In Spanish, ser- participles appear in compound tenses with haber or estar and in passive constructions with ser: for example, “La comida fue servida” (the meal was served) and “Las mesas están servidas” (the tables are served). The participle agrees in gender and number with the subject: servido, servidos, servida, servidas. In everyday speech, the active voice “se sirvió” is often preferred, as in “Se sirvió la comida.”

In Portuguese, the participle is used similarly: “A comida foi servida” (the meal was served) and “As bebidas já estão servidas” (the drinks are served). It also agrees in gender and number: servido/servida, servidos/servidas. In Brazilian Portuguese, a sense of “the meal is well provided” can appear as “o prato está bem servido,” though this usage is less universal than the standard passive meaning.
