Sekundaarikäämin is a Finnish term that translates to "secondary coil" in English. It refers to the coil of wire in a transformer that receives its electrical energy by electromagnetic induction from the primary coil. Transformers are devices that transfer electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction. They are fundamental components in many electrical systems, including power grids, electronics, and telecommunications.

The primary coil is connected to an alternating current (AC) source, which creates a changing magnetic field. This changing magnetic field then passes through the core of the transformer and links with the secondary coil. According to Faraday's law of induction, this changing magnetic field induces a voltage across the secondary coil. The relationship between the voltage in the primary coil and the voltage in the secondary coil is determined by the ratio of the number of turns in each coil. If the secondary coil has more turns than the primary coil, it is a step-up transformer, increasing the voltage.
