Sejtterápiákat, often translated as cell therapies, represent a diverse range of medical treatments that involve introducing living cells into a patient to treat a disease or condition. These therapies leverage the regenerative, reparative, or immune-modulating properties of cells. The cells used can be autologous, meaning they are derived from the patient themselves, or allogeneic, originating from a donor.

A prominent example of cell therapy is stem cell transplantation, particularly hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). This is a well-established treatment for various blood cancers and bone marrow disorders. In HSCT, a patient's diseased bone marrow is replaced with healthy stem cells, which can then produce functional blood cells.

Beyond HSCT, other forms of cell therapy are emerging. These include therapies using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for their anti-inflammatory and regenerative potential in conditions like osteoarthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. CAR T-cell therapy, a type of immunotherapy, involves genetically engineering a patient's own T-cells to specifically target and destroy cancer cells.

The development of cell therapies is a rapidly advancing field, with ongoing research exploring their application in a wide spectrum of diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and autoimmune conditions. Challenges in this field include ensuring cell viability, controlling immune responses, and scaling up production for widespread clinical use. Regulatory oversight and rigorous clinical trials are crucial for the safe and effective implementation of cell-based treatments.
