Schuimbeton, also known as foam concrete, is a lightweight concrete material. It is produced by mixing cement, water, and a foaming agent. The foaming agent creates a stable foam structure within the mixture, resulting in a material with a significant volume of air bubbles. This cellular structure gives schuimbeton its characteristic low density and insulating properties.

The production process typically involves mixing cement, sand (sometimes omitted for very lightweight applications), water, and a pre-formed foam. The foam is generated separately by mixing a foaming agent with water and air. This foam is then blended into the cementitious slurry. The resulting mixture is poured into place or precast into blocks. The curing process is similar to that of traditional concrete.

Schuimbeton finds various applications in construction due to its advantageous properties. Its low density makes it easier to handle and transport, reducing structural load. Its excellent thermal insulation properties contribute to energy efficiency in buildings, making it suitable for use as floor insulation, roof insulation, and in the creation of lightweight foundation slabs. It is also used for filling voids, backfilling trenches, and as a lightweight aggregate. The material is generally considered environmentally friendly due to its reduced cement content and potential use of recycled materials.
