Sayableexpressible is a neologism used in linguistics and philosophy of language to denote the relationship between what can be uttered in natural language (sayable) and what can be captured or represented in a formal or alternative symbolic system (expressible). The term is not widely standardized and appears mainly as a heuristic device in analytic debates rather than as a fixed technical category.

The distinction draws a line between sayable content—the performative and communicative aspects of speech that listeners can recognize as meaningful in ordinary use—and expressible content—what can be encoded, formalized, or otherwise represented in logic, mathematics, or computer languages. The sayable/expressible framework helps analyze limits of both natural language and formal systems: some information may be sayable but not fully expressible within a given formal framework; some content may be expressible in a formal system but not readily sayable in everyday conversation; and some content may resist expressibility or sayability within a particular model.

Applications appear in debates about the expressibility of metaphysical or subjective experiences, the challenges of translating between natural languages and formal descriptions, and issues in knowledge representation, ontology design, and artificial intelligence. The term emphasizes not merely linguistic capability but also the constraints imposed by the medium used to convey meaning.
