Santificación refers to the process of becoming holy or being made holy. In many religious traditions, it is understood as a work of divine grace, often involving the Holy Spirit, that transforms an individual's character and conduct to align with God's will. This process is typically not instantaneous but rather a lifelong journey of growth and sanctification.

In Christian theology, santification is often viewed in distinct phases. Positional santification occurs at the moment of conversion, where a believer is set apart for God. Progressive santification is the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life, gradually purifying them from sin and conforming them to the image of Christ. Some traditions also speak of a final or complete santification, which is realized upon death or at the resurrection.

While divine power is seen as the primary agent, believers are called to actively participate in the process through prayer, study of scripture, obedience, and the practice of spiritual disciplines.
