Röntgenkiiri, often translated as X-ray or roentgen ray, refers to electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from about 10 picometers to 10 nanometers. These wavelengths correspond to photon energies between 120 eV and 120 keV. X-rays were discovered in 1895 by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who famously called them "X-Strahlen" because their nature was unknown at the time. The term "röntgen" is often used in his honor.

The properties of X-rays include their ability to penetrate matter, their ionization capabilities, and their fluorescence-inducing effects on certain materials. Due to their penetrating power, X-rays are widely used in medical imaging to visualize internal structures of the body, such as bones and organs. In industrial applications, they are employed for non-destructive testing to detect flaws in materials.
