Rézszivárgás is a Hungarian term that translates to "copper leakage" in English. It refers to the undesirable migration of copper from plumbing pipes into drinking water. Copper pipes have been widely used in plumbing systems for their durability and resistance to corrosion. However, under certain water conditions, copper can dissolve into the water, leading to elevated levels.

Factors that can contribute to rézszivárgás include water acidity (low pH), high water temperature, and the absence of protective mineral scales on the interior of the pipes. Soft water, which typically has a lower mineral content, is more likely to leach copper than hard water. Stagnant water in pipes, such as overnight or after a period of disuse, can also increase copper concentrations as it has more time to interact with the pipe material.
