ränngaller
ränngaller is a traditional Scandinavian craft associated primarily with rural Sweden. The term originates from the Old Norse words rán meaning “to tilt” or “to bend” and galler meaning “framework” or “rye‑straw lattice.” Historically, ränngaller were constructed as vertical, woven panels of rye straw or barley stalks that were used to support drying corn and other grains, especially during the late harvest season. The lattice design allowed air circulation and sunlight to penetrate, speeding the drying process while protecting crops from pests and damp weather.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, ränngaller played an essential role in small-scale agricultural communities.
In modern times, ränngaller are rarely used in conventional farming due to mechanization and improved storage
