Ruokasuolaa is the edible salt used in food preparation and preservation. Chemically it is sodium chloride (NaCl). Health authorities commonly recommend limiting daily salt intake to around 5 grams for adults, though needs vary. Iodized ruokasuolaa helps prevent iodine deficiency, an important consideration in regions with low dietary iodine.
