rumäner

Rumäner is a demonym used in several languages to refer to a person from Romania or of Romanian ethnicity. In Romanian, the people of Romania identify themselves as români (singular român; plural români). The form rumäner appears in external-language references and is encountered in encyclopedic texts to denote Romanians.

Romanians speak Romanian (Română), a Romance language descended from Latin. It is the official language of Romania and is widely spoken in Moldova, where the standard form is commonly referred to as Romanian as well. The language uses the Latin alphabet and has regional varieties and several dialects.

Geography and history: Romania lies in Southeast Europe, with notable features including the Carpathian Mountains, the Danube River, and a Black Sea coast. The modern Romanian state formed from the unification of the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia in 1859, gained independence in 1877, and experienced a communist era from 1947 to 1989. It joined the European Union in 2007.
