Rullpurusteid, often translated as "rolled oats" or "oat groats" in English, refers to a specific preparation of oats. Oats are a cereal grain widely consumed around the world, known for their nutritional benefits. Rullpurusteid are made by steaming whole oat groats (the hulled kernels of oats) and then flattening them with large rollers. This process partially cooks the oats and gives them their characteristic flat, flake-like shape.

The steaming process also deactivates enzymes that can cause spoilage, which extends the shelf life of the rullpurusteid. The subsequent rolling makes them cook faster and absorb liquid more readily, making them ideal for breakfast porridge.
