Rosputkin, also known as Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, was a Russian mystic and self-proclaimed holy man who gained significant influence in the Russian imperial court during the early 20th century. He was first brought to the attention of the Romanov family, the ruling dynasty of Imperial Russia, by their daughter, Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, in 1905.

Rasputin's influence over the Romanov family grew, particularly over Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich, the heir to the throne, who was severely disabled.
