Roamingyhteys, often referred to as roaming, is a telecommunications feature that allows a mobile phone user to automatically connect to a network outside their home network provider's coverage area. This typically occurs when a user travels internationally, but it can also happen domestically if they are outside their usual service area. When roaming, the user's device connects to a partner network in the visited location, enabling them to make and receive calls, send and receive text messages, and use mobile data.

The ability to roam is usually facilitated by agreements between mobile network operators. These agreements allow customers of one operator to use the network infrastructure of another. Historically, roaming was a complex process, but modern technology and standardization have made it largely seamless for the end-user. However, the costs associated with roaming can vary significantly depending on the user's mobile plan and the visited country or region. Many providers now offer specific roaming packages or "fair use" policies to manage these costs.

When roaming, the user's phone number typically remains the same. Calls and texts are routed through the home network to the visited network and back. Data roaming allows access to the internet using the local network's infrastructure. It is advisable for users to check their provider's roaming rates and policies before traveling to avoid unexpected charges. Some countries or regions have implemented "roam like at home" regulations, which aim to reduce or eliminate roaming fees for users within those areas, such as within the European Union.
