ringette
Ringette is a Canadian-created ice skating team sport with similarities to ice hockey. It is played on ice with skates, using sticks, and a ring instead of a puck. The objective of the game is to score by shooting the ring into the opposing team's net. Players wear protective equipment similar to hockey. Ringette is distinguished by its use of a straight stick, the ring with holes, and specific rules regarding stick and ring handling. Players can only pass the ring forward or backward, and they are not allowed to pass the ring from one side of their body to the other while in possession. The game is played by two teams, typically with five skaters and one goaltender per team on the ice at a time. Teams can be male or female, though it is predominantly played by women and girls. Ringette is known for its fast pace and the strategic passing and skating required. It originated in Ontario, Canada, in 1963 and has since spread internationally, with active leagues and tournaments in Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
