Rigidifierade is a Swedish term derived from the verb rigidifiera, meaning to make something rigid or stiff. In technical usage, it describes materials, structures, or biological samples that have undergone a treatment or process to increase stiffness and reduce deformability. The term is used across disciplines to indicate that a prior state has been transformed toward greater rigidity.

In materials science and polymer chemistry, rigidification typically involves crosslinking of polymer chains, crystallization, dehydration, or the introduction of stiffening agents. The outcome is a higher stiffness (modulus) and hardness, often accompanied by reduced ductility and elongation at break, and sometimes a higher glass transition temperature. The process can be achieved chemically, thermally, or through irradiation, and it may alter thermal, mechanical, and chemical resistance properties.
