Riadne, also known as Rhea, was a Titaness in Greek mythology, representing the primordial goddess of motherhood, fertility, and the earth. She was one of the first generation of divine beings, born from the void of Chaos or, in some accounts, as the daughter of Uranus (the sky) and Gaia (the earth). Riadne was often depicted as the mother of the Olympian gods, particularly as the consort of Cronus, the Titan who overthrew Uranus.

According to Hesiod’s *Theogony*, Riadne was the mother of six children: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. After Cronus swallowed his children to prevent them from overthrowing him, Riadne secretly hid Zeus in a cave on Crete, allowing him to grow and later lead a rebellion against his father. In gratitude, Zeus spared Riadne and her other children, elevating them to the Olympian pantheon.

In later Roman mythology, Riadne was syncretized with the goddess Ops, representing abundance and the earth’s nourishing power. Her name appears in various forms across Greek and Latin sources, including Rhea, Rheia, and Rheia. Some traditions also linked her to the cycle of seasons, symbolizing the earth’s renewal.

Riadne’s influence extended into art and culture, where she was often portrayed as a majestic figure, sometimes holding a scepter or surrounded by her children. Her mythological role highlights themes of maternal protection, cosmic order, and the transition from the Titan era to the Olympian gods. While her worship was not as widespread as other major deities, her significance in early Greek cosmology remains a key part of mythological studies.
