Resuscitated is the past participle of resuscitate and is used as an adjective to describe someone who has been revived from unconsciousness or from clinical death after the cessation of breathing or heart activity. In medical contexts, resuscitation refers to the processes and interventions aimed at restoring spontaneous circulation and breathing, often in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest or severe respiratory failure.

In medical practice, resuscitation includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation when indicated, airway management, ventilation, and sometimes medications and advanced therapies under structured protocols such as advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). A key goal is return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), after which ongoing critical care is provided to stabilize the patient, identify reversible causes, and optimize organ perfusion. Outcomes depend on factors including the underlying cause, time to initiation of resuscitation, and the quality of life prior to arrest. Public bystander CPR and rapid access to defibrillation significantly influence survival rates in out-of-hospital cases.

The term resuscitated can also be used outside medicine to describe reviving something non-living, such as a project, building, or tradition that had dwindled or fallen into disuse. Etymologically, resuscitate comes from Latin resuscitare, meaning to revive or awaken, from re- “again” and suscitare “to raise.”
