Resubmission is the act of submitting material again after it has been reviewed and found insufficient, or after revisions have been made in response to feedback. It is part of an iterative evaluation process used by editors, grant agencies, peer reviewers, and other decision-makers.

In academic publishing and scholarly writing, resubmission occurs when authors revise a manuscript in light of reviewer comments and resubmit a revised version accompanied by a point-by-point response to the critiques. The editor may accept, request further revision, or reject the manuscript.

In grant proposals, resubmission—often called a revised proposal—follows reviewer feedback. Applicants update the application, budgets, and research plan, and provide a narrative explaining how concerns were addressed. The funding agency may set limits on the number of resubmissions.

Resubmission can also apply to patent applications, software patches, legal filings, or contest entries. In each case, the process usually includes a cover letter or response to reviewers, a clearly marked revised document, and a version history to show changes.

Best practices include addressing all major concerns, providing a clear, organized response, and ensuring consistency between the response and revised material. Deadlines and guidelines should be followed, and substantial revisions should be avoided for minor, cosmetic changes unless required.
