Restkleb is a reversible adhesive technology designed to form temporary but durable bonds between substrates. The term is used for a family of polymers and gel networks that can be attached and detached multiple times with minimal residue. It has been described in the technical literature as enabling resealing, modular assembly, and recyclability in consumer and industrial contexts.

Chemistry and mechanism: Restkleb systems rely on dynamic bonds that can reform after a bond is broken. Common chemistries include disulfide exchanges, Diels-Alder retro reactions, hydrogen-bond networks, and host–guest interactions. The adhesive can be activated or deactivated by external stimuli such as heat, light, or pH changes, allowing on-demand bonding and debonding.

Form factors and performance: Restkleb materials are formulated as adhesives, tapes, or coatings, offering bond strengths comparable to conventional adhesives in the prepared state and low residue upon removal. Limitations and safety: While promising, restkleb systems can be sensitive to moisture, solvents, or UV exposure affecting bond integrity.
