These measures provide insights into how many children women are having on average and whether a population is growing, shrinking, or remaining stable.

The TFR represents the average number of children a woman would have over her lifetime if she were to experience the current age-specific fertility rates throughout her reproductive years. An NRR of 1 indicates that a generation of women is producing exactly enough daughters to replace themselves.
