replikointimahdollisuudet
Replikointimahdollisuus, or replication capability, describes the capacity of a genetic element to duplicate itself within a host organism. It is a term commonly used for plasmids, viral genomes, and chromosomal fragments that contain a functional origin of replication and accompanying regulatory elements. The central determinant is the origin of replication (ori), a DNA sequence recognized by the host’s replication machinery to initiate duplication. Elements with an ori compatible with the host can replicate, while incompatible or absent origins may fail to replicate or be unstable. Copy number, the average number of copies per cell, is controlled by element- and host-encoded regulators and influences gene expression and cellular burden.
Key determinants include host range, which defines in which species or strains the element can replicate; some
