Rephased is the past tense form of the verb rephase in contexts where changing the phase of a signal or wave is involved. In ordinary writing, the more common verb is rephrase, whose past tense is rephrased. The form rephased may thus appear in technical literature to avoid confusion with rephrase, but it is not standard in everyday English.

In signal processing and acoustics, to rephase a signal means to adjust the phase components so that a reconstructed waveform aligns with a reference phase. This can involve delaying or advancing the phase of frequency components, often to correct for dispersion or to create a desired temporal shape. A signal that has undergone this operation may be described as rephased.

In physics, especially in quantum optics and magnetic resonance, rephasing refers to restoring phase coherence among a collection of states whose phases have diverged due to inhomogeneous conditions. Techniques such as spin echoes implement rephasing by applying controlled operations that reverse phase evolution. The resulting ensemble is said to be rephased, improving coherence and signal strength.

Notes: The term is distinct from rephrase (to restate in different words). In nontechnical writing, rephased is uncommon or considered nonstandard for the meaning “restated.” In technical fields, however, rephase and rephased are established terms referring to phase manipulation of waves or quantum states.
