Repetiția, plural repetiții, is a session devoted to practicing and refining a performance before it is presented to an audience. It can occur in music, theater, dance, film, or other artistic disciplines and serves to synchronize participants, test technical systems, and deepen interpretation. The term appears in Romanian from Latin repetitio through French or Italian intermediaries and has been part of the language for centuries.

In practice, repetitii are organized by the production’s artistic staff, such as regizorul (director) and, in musical settings, dirijorul (conductor) and a pianist or répétiteur. They are usually divided into types: repetitii de lucru (work rehearsals) focused on developing specific aspects of the performance, repetitii tehnice (technical run-throughs) addressing lighting, sound, costumes, and stage mechanics, and repetitie generală (final rehearsal) intended to simulate the premiere as closely as possible. A separate term, proba, is sometimes used for a shorter, trial-performance in front of a small audience or staff.

The content of repetitii varies by discipline. In theater, they cover blocking, cues, and acting choices; in music, they emphasize ensemble balance, intonation, phrasing, and tempo; in dance, coordination and choreography. Repetițiile are essential for shaping pacing, communication, and overall cohesion, and they often conclude with a preview or preview-like session before the official opening. They may be brief or extended, depending on the complexity of the work and the schedule.
