Remotesat is a term used to describe a class of satellite systems optimized for remote sensing and data delivery from space. It denotes a generic concept rather than a specific product, and can refer to individual satellites or constellations designed to observe Earth's surface and atmosphere.

Most remotesats operate in low Earth orbit, including sun-synchronous options, to provide timely, repeatable observations. They employ platforms ranging from small CubeSats to larger observatories, equipped with payloads such as optical multispectral imagers, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), hyperspectral sensors, LiDAR, and atmospheric sensors.

Data are downlinked via radio communications, sometimes using inter-satellite links to optimize routing within a constellation. Power typically comes from solar arrays with batteries; attitude control maintains pointing accuracy for imaging and sensor calibration.

Applications span agriculture, land use and forestry monitoring, disaster management, climate research, urban planning, maritime domain awareness, and environmental monitoring. Remotesats can also act as communications relays or backhaul nodes in regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure.

Challenges include spectrum management, space debris risk, data latency, and privacy considerations. The growth of open data policies and standardized interfaces has improved data accessibility and interoperability across platforms.
