Reluktanssit is a Finnish term referring to the magnetic reluctance of a material. In electromagnetism, reluctance is analogous to electrical resistance in a circuit. It measures how difficult it is for magnetic flux to pass through a magnetic circuit. A material with low reluctance allows magnetic flux to pass easily, while a material with high reluctance opposes the flow of magnetic flux.

The concept of reluctance is fundamental to the design and understanding of electromagnetic devices such as transformers, electric motors, and inductors. Materials like soft iron and ferromagnetic alloys have very low reluctance, making them ideal for cores in these applications. Conversely, air and non-magnetic materials have high reluctance.

Reluctance is calculated as the ratio of magnetomotive force (MMF) to magnetic flux. MMF is the driving force for magnetic flux, similar to voltage in an electrical circuit. The unit of reluctance in the International System of Units (SI) is the ampere-turn per weber (At/Wb). Magnetic permeability, a material property indicating how easily a magnetic field can be produced in a material, is inversely related to reluctance. Higher permeability means lower reluctance. Understanding reluctance is crucial for predicting magnetic field strength and distribution within a given magnetic circuit.
