A releasepaket, commonly referred to as a release package, is a bundled collection of software components, build artifacts, metadata, and accompanying materials released as a single unit for distribution and deployment. It represents a concrete version of a software product and is intended to enable reproducible installation across environments.

A releasepaket typically contains binaries or artifacts (compiled executables, libraries, platform-specific packages such as DEB/RPM/MSI), supporting files (installation scripts, configuration templates), documentation, license and readme files, a changelog, and metadata such as version numbers and checksums. It may also include source code or source packages in some cases, and ecosystem-specific artifacts (Maven/Gradle artifacts, NuGet packages, npm packages) corresponding to the release.

Release packages are produced by build and release pipelines. Validation includes automated tests, security scans, license checks, and signing of artifacts to ensure integrity and provenance.

Once created, a releasepaket is published to artifact repositories or distribution channels (download servers, app stores, update servers). Consumers install the package using the appropriate installer or package manager. Versioning follows a scheme such as semantic versioning to reflect changes and compatibility.

A releasepaket supports traceability, compliance, and rollback planning. It provides release notes and metadata for auditing, licensing, and reproducibility, helping teams manage software lifecycles and ensure consistent deployments across environments.
