It is not a standard lemma in classical Latin; the expected infinitive form of the verb is regenerare, meaning to regenerate, renew, or restore. The form regenerere can be encountered as a nonstandard variant, a scribal error, or a deliberate stylistic choice in modern writing. In scholarly contexts, it is generally treated as noncanonical rather than a distinct, officially recognized form.

Etymology and usage notes suggest that regenerere is built from the prefix re- meaning again, combined with generare, the verb meaning to generate.
