Redoksisüsteemid, also known as shellfish and algae aquaculture systems, are a type of marine co-culture system that combines the culture of multiple marine species, typically including red algae and shellfish such as mussels, oysters, or other bivalves.

This type of system is designed to enhance the growth and survival of red algae, often Porphyra species, used as food and nutrients for various marine animals. By co-culturing shellfish with red algae, redoksisüsteemid provides an environment that promotes the growth of both species, enhancing the overall production value and minimizing the risk of pests and diseases.

Typically, shellfish are attached to racks or lines, with red algae filters or aggregates suspended below, creating a symbiotic interaction. Red algae act as a filter for nutrients, and shellfish provide shelter and protection for the algae holding the surface with carbon dioxide. In return, shellfish benefits from the provided shelter, improved water quality and forage and plicate culture for grazing on the algae.

Encouraging shellfish, such as mussels, to congregate around the structure helps to beautify the production of algae and prevent outbreaks of predators. Other technical advantages include neutralizing the reproduction of shellfish, simplification of munitions, oxygen ventilation, and cobbling of biotopes.
