redbud
Redbud refers to trees and shrubs in the genus Cercis, commonly known for their showy pink or purplish flowers that appear in early spring before the leaves emerge. These flowers, which are pea-like in structure, often bloom directly on the branches and trunk, a phenomenon called cauliflory. The most widely recognized species is the Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis, native to eastern North America. Other notable species include the Western Redbud (Cercis occidentalis) found in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, and the Chinese Redbud (Cercis chinensis) from East Asia.
Redbuds are typically small to medium-sized deciduous trees, often growing to heights of 20 to 30 feet.
