Receding is the act or condition of moving back from a reference point or of diminishing in extent, size, or intensity. It is used as a present participle and adjective to describe something that withdraws, retreats, or becomes smaller or less prominent.

Human appearance: A receding hairline refers to backward movement of the hairline at the temples, a pattern commonly linked to aging and genetics. Treatments vary and may include medical therapies, hair restoration techniques, or cosmetic options, depending on individual circumstances.

Other uses: The term can also describe the diminishing intensity or scope of non-physical phenomena, such as recession in economics or a decline in interest, though such uses are metaphorical.
