Realiteti, in Albanian, generally means “the reality” and refers to the state of things as they actually exist. In philosophy, realiteti is the subject of questions about what is real, what can be known, and how reality relates to perception, thought, and language. While many languages distinguish between the existence of things and our knowledge of them, the term realiteti is used to discuss both ontological questions (the nature of being) and epistemological concerns (the nature of knowledge about that being).

Philosophical traditions vary in their answers to what constitutes reality. Realism holds that a world exists independently of observers and beliefs. Anti-realism or idealism questions or denies such independence, suggesting that reality is in some way dependent on minds or concepts. Phenomenology emphasizes the way things appear to consciousness, while existential and social theories often stress how social practices, language, and institutions shape what is taken to be real. Constructivist approaches argue that many aspects of reality are in part created through human activity and cultural norms.

Reality can be thought of as layered: physical reality described by the natural sciences; perceptual reality as experienced by individuals; and social reality constituted by norms, rules, and institutions. The relationship between reality and knowledge is central to debates on scientific realism versus instrumentalism, theory-ladenness, and skepticism about the external world.

In Albanian discourse, realiteti is used across philosophy, science, and everyday discussion to address how things are, how they are known, and how human practices influence what is regarded as real.
