Rasvaportein is a term used in Finnish biomedicine to denote lipoproteins, a heterogeneous family of particles that transport lipids through the aqueous environment of blood and lymph. Lipoproteins vary in size, density, and composition, but share a core of hydrophobic lipids surrounded by a surface layer of phospholipids, cholesterol, and apolipoproteins that stabilize the particle and determine its interactions with cell receptors.
