Rasedusele is a term that refers to multiple pregnancies, meaning a woman is carrying more than one fetus at a time. This can include twins, triplets, quadruplets, and so on. The most common form of rasedusele is twins. The incidence of rasedusele has increased in recent decades, which is often attributed to factors such as increased use of assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and a trend towards later childbearing.

The causes of rasedusele can be spontaneous or medically induced. Spontaneous rasedusele typically occurs when a woman releases multiple eggs during ovulation and each egg is fertilized by a sperm, resulting in fraternal (dizygotic) twins. Identical (monozygotic) twins occur when a single fertilized egg splits into two or more embryos. Medically induced rasedusele is often a side effect of fertility treatments, where medications are used to stimulate ovulation, or multiple embryos are transferred into the uterus.

Pregnancies involving multiple fetuses are considered high-risk. Pregnant individuals carrying multiples are at a higher risk for certain complications, including premature birth, low birth weight, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and placental problems. The delivery of multiples also carries increased risks and often requires a Cesarean section.
