Radoninpoistojärjestelmä is a Finnish term referring to a radon mitigation system. These systems are designed to reduce the concentration of radon gas in indoor environments. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into buildings from the ground. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon can increase the risk of lung cancer.

The primary goal of a radon mitigation system is to prevent radon from entering the living space or to remove it if it does enter. One common method is sub-slab depressurization, where a pipe is installed through the foundation slab, connected to a fan that creates a negative pressure. This fan draws radon-laden air from beneath the slab and vents it safely outside, away from the building's air intakes.

Another approach involves improving ventilation. This can include increasing the rate of air exchange within the building, often through mechanical ventilation systems like heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) or energy recovery ventilators (ERVs). These systems replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while minimizing heat loss.

Sealing cracks and openings in the foundation, walls, and floors is also a crucial part of radon mitigation. By blocking potential entry points, the system can be more effective. The design and effectiveness of a radon mitigation system are typically assessed through post-installation radon testing to ensure that indoor radon levels have been reduced to acceptable standards. Regular monitoring may also be recommended.
