Radioulnariliitosten refers to the joints between the radius and ulna bones in the forearm. There are three such articulations: the proximal radioulnar joint, the distal radioulnar joint, and the middle radioulnar synostosis.

The proximal radioulnar joint is located at the elbow, where the head of the radius articulates with the radial notch of the ulna. This articulation, along with the humeroulnar and humeroradial joints, allows for flexion and extension of the elbow and, crucially, for pronation and supination of the forearm. The annular ligament plays a significant role in stabilizing this joint.

The distal radioulnar joint is found at the wrist, where the head of the ulna articulates with the ulnar notch of the radius. This joint is essential for the rotational movements of the forearm, enabling the palm to turn up (supination) and down (pronation). It is further stabilized by the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC).

Radioulnar synostosis is a congenital condition where the radius and ulna fuse together, typically in the proximal part of the forearm. This fusion restricts the normal rotational movements of the forearm, often leading to limited pronation and supination. The degree of functional impairment can vary depending on the extent of the fusion.

Disruptions or injuries to the radioulnar joints, such as dislocations, fractures, or degenerative changes, can significantly impact forearm function and lead to pain, instability, and limited range of motion. Treatment strategies depend on the specific condition and may involve conservative management or surgical intervention.
