Radiotaajuussäteilyksi is the Finnish term for radiofrequency radiation (RFR). RFR is a form of electromagnetic radiation that falls within the radio frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum. This means it has a frequency between 3 kilohertz (kHz) and 300 gigahertz (GHz). RFR is part of the non-ionizing radiation category, meaning it does not have enough energy to remove electrons from atoms or molecules, and therefore cannot directly damage DNA.

Sources of RFR are widespread in modern society. Common examples include radio and television broadcasting, mobile phones and base stations, Wi-Fi devices, microwave ovens, radar systems, and various medical imaging equipment. The energy emitted by these devices is used for communication, heating, and other technological applications.

The potential health effects of RFR exposure have been a subject of scientific research and public discussion. Current scientific consensus, as established by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and national health agencies, is that exposure to RFR at levels below established international guidelines does not pose a known risk to human health. These guidelines are set by organizations such as the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and are based on extensive reviews of scientific literature. While some studies have explored possible links between RFR and health outcomes, the majority of research has not found conclusive evidence of adverse effects at typical exposure levels.
