Radiokerros, also known as the radio layer, is the lowest layer in the OSI model's conceptual framework for network communication. It is responsible for the physical transmission of raw data bits over a communication medium. This layer deals with the actual hardware components and the physical characteristics of the transmission, such as voltage levels, timing, and data rates.

The radiokerros defines how data is encoded into signals suitable for the transmission medium, whether it be electrical signals over wires, radio waves, or light pulses through fiber optics. It specifies the type of connectors, cables, and network interface cards (NICs) used. Tasks at this level include managing the physical connection between devices, detecting and responding to physical errors, and ensuring that signals are sent and received correctly.

While the OSI model is a theoretical construct, the radiokerros concept is implemented in real-world networking hardware. For example, in Ethernet networks, the radiokerros is responsible for the electrical signaling on the twisted-pair cables, the optical signaling in fiber optic cables, and the radio signaling in wireless networks. It is the foundation upon which all other network layers are built, enabling the transfer of information from one device to another.
