Raakapuu, or raw timber, refers to timber that has been felled and prepared only to rough dimensions, without undergoing final finishing processes. It can take the form of round logs or rough-sawn boards, typically sold by length and width but with an uneven, textured surface and sometimes with bark still attached.

Characteristics of raakapuu include a rough surface, potential curvature or warping, and a moisture content that can range from green to air-dried or kiln-dried. The quality and appearance depend on species, growth conditions, and the stage of rough processing. Because it has not been planed or finished, raakapuu may require further processing to achieve precise dimensions and surface smoothness.

Drying, planing, and other finishing steps are typically performed later, either at the mill, on-site, or in a woodworking shop. Classification and grading schemes vary by country and market, reflecting differences in intended use and regional practices.
