A quartoagonist typically shares the stage with the other central figures and can influence major plotlines. Their role might include providing an alternate perspective, shaping a major sub-plot, or acting as a foil to the protagonist or to the deuteragonist and tritagonist. In some works the fourth focus character is a de facto co-lead whose personal arc runs parallel to the main arc; in others, they are a supporting character whose actions have outsized consequences.
