Pölynhajulla, also known as the dust mite, is a microscopic arachnid that belongs to the family Pyroglyphidae. These tiny creatures are commonly found in indoor environments, particularly in dust and on surfaces where people spend a lot of time, such as mattresses, pillows, and upholstered furniture. Pölynhajulla are known for their role in allergic reactions, as their droppings and body parts can trigger asthma and other allergic responses in sensitive individuals.

The scientific name for the dust mite is Pyroglyphus sejmouri. These mites are about 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters in size and have a flattened, oval-shaped body. They have eight legs and are typically reddish-brown in color. Pölynhajulla feed on dead skin cells and other organic material, which they filter from the air using their mouthparts.

Dust mites are most active during the warmer months and can reproduce rapidly, with a single female being able to lay up to 100 eggs per day. They prefer humid environments and can survive in temperatures ranging from 68°F to 95°F (20°C to 35°C). To control dust mite populations, it is recommended to maintain low humidity levels, use allergen-proof bedding, and regularly clean and vacuum indoor surfaces.
