However, the effectiveness of the technique depends on several factors, including the type and concentration of contaminants, the soil characteristics, and the washing solution used. Additionally, the technique may not be suitable for all types of contaminants, such as those that are strongly adsorbed to soil particles or those that are present in low concentrations.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the use of advanced oxidation processes, such as Fenton's reagent and photocatalysis, to enhance the effectiveness of põhpuhastus for the treatment of recalcitrant contaminants. These processes generate highly reactive hydroxyl radicals that can degrade a wide range of organic and inorganic contaminants, making them a promising alternative to traditional põhpuhastus techniques. However, the use of these advanced oxidation processes is still in the research and development stage and has not yet been widely adopted in practice.
