përbërjesh

Përbërjesh is a term originating from the Albanian language, generally translating to "compounds" or "mixtures" in English. In a scientific context, it refers to substances formed when two or more elements are chemically bonded together in a fixed ratio. This is distinct from a mixture, where components are not chemically bonded and can be separated by physical means.

For example, water (H2O) is a përbërjesh because hydrogen and oxygen atoms are chemically bonded in a 2:1 ratio. Salt (NaCl) is another common përbërjesh, formed by sodium and chlorine. The properties of a përbërjesh are typically different from the properties of the individual elements from which it is formed. Understanding përbërjesh is fundamental to chemistry, as it allows for the classification and study of the vast array of substances that exist. The formation of përbërjesh involves chemical reactions that result in the rearrangement of atoms and the creation of new chemical bonds. The reverse process, breaking down a përbërjesh into its constituent elements, is called decomposition and also requires chemical reactions.
