Påskedagene, literally “the Easter days,” is a term used in Norwegian and Danish to denote the period surrounding Easter. It refers to the combination of Holy Week and the Easter weekend, depending on context, and encompasses both religious observances and secular traditions.

The traditional Christian calendar around påskedagene includes several named days: Palmesøndag (Palm Sunday), Skjærtorsdag (Maundy Thursday), Langfredag (Good Friday), Påskedag (Easter Sunday), and 2. påskedag (Easter Monday). In practice, people often speak of the broader Easter period as a time for church services, reflection on the Passion and Resurrection, and family gatherings.

Observances and practices during påskedagene vary by country and community but commonly include religious services, processions, and quiet time. Secular customs are also prominent: many people take time off work or school, decorate and hunt for Easter eggs, and share festive meals. In Norway and parts of the Nordic region, Easter traditions include on- and off-line Easter egg hunts, chocolate eggs, and, culturally, the phenomenon of on-spring crime fiction known as “påskekrim.” Traditional foods differ by region, with meat such as lamb, and in coastal areas smoked cod or other regional specialties common during the period.
